The joy of aging!

JournaL

Feel the Drag

The world is
moving faster
And I, am
moving slower

…feel the drag.

The other day
I heard the strains
of an old Stones
Song I used to love

…what a drag it is, getting old…

Now, I gave
pause to ponder
the profundity
of those words…

I was but a young
and perky chicklet
when The Brits invaded
Then prevailed upon,
American shores.

A gum-snapping
foot-tapping
teeny-bopper of
a fan!

Having absolutely
no idea of what
they were really
talking about
I had purposed in
my heart
Then and there,
NOT ME!

…I would never be a drag!

So here I am
At 62
And while I am
No fuddy-duddy,
I am slow…er.

Recently I grew
concerned anew
When I heard
Those Beatles implore,

"Will you still need me,
will you still feed me…
when I'm 64?"!

Yikes!

But yes, it brought
a smile to my face
Too.

For now, I know
That I am actually
Ageless!

And that, I
Yes, I
Shall live
Forever!

For I am a
Child of
 the Living God
and in Him
Is, my eternal
Life!

So while this
old bod might
snap and pop
just from my own
Standing up

…and I can feel the drag

My spirit-woman is
Being renewed daily
And she rises on
Eagle's wings…

So that
even when I do
feel the drag…
The old heart?

well, she still sings!

For in Him we live and move and have our being.'
As some of your own poets have said,
'We are His offspring.'

Yes, I'm slower as I age also, aging mightily fast too. This says lots to me, and I believe all of it.

Hi Rhonda Ever so nice hearing from you. Love your poem dragging. Well OK! I/m still around at 92 and going strong at Camelot of Broussard. Can't give up keep trucking along even tho feet hurt, using a cane and sometimes walker. Remember me to that brother and say, Let's hear from you also. Still in love, is he? Marguerite Little Flower

Good to hear from the young ones, but you have been gone so long and I have missed your endearing poetry. The Beatles were a blip in my hectic life, but not so in many million others. I loved the message they brought in their poetic music.

Those old guys, Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney, are still around and singing their hearts out. "When I'm 64" went by in a heartbeat.
