Dewdrops....

by Richard Lloyd Cederberg — Read all 280 poems by Richard Lloyd Cederberg

In a dewdrop we witness the cycle of beginning, radiating, and letting go. And like dewdrops our hearts glow most when they catch the quiet fire of Light…

Poem Artwork
So.... to
what shall we
liken ourselves to
in this life so fleeting?
Dewdrops perhaps, born
of nights soft breath, shining
with the dawn’s first gold, then
slowly slipping away on a breeze…
Dewdrops, hanging
delicately on leaves of grass
clinging in quiet grace, and then
carried away in mornings sunlight...
.
Like dewdrops,
our lives embody
a paradox of being,
precious and ephemeral
delicate and reflective
fragile yet radiant,
like dewdrops,
vivid and complete in their moment,
yet intrinsically bound to impermanence,
.
Living teaches some the quiet art of yielding…
.
Mourning not the sun that steals,
the heart beats towards its own stillness,
and by midday the meadow stands bare. And
like dewdrops, life clings to each of us in quiet grace
until the Light (or the darkness) removes us....

A very good comparison. Like dew drops we evaporate and recycle. Probably until there is no more water on the planet.

My observations are the times I ran off into the pasture on my grandfather's farm and wet my plain pocket Penny's jeans and tennies to the knees.

The coastal redwoods in Northern California create their own ecosystem by absorbing due from the fog that rolls in almost every night to replenish every living thing there.

Likewise, coastal deserts around the world have grasses and other plants that gather dew and sustain all forms of wildlife from small insects to large herbivores.

Such a touching annalogy, bringing metaphor and reason into a combined thread that weaves your insight into a quiet but glorius reality. So appreciated this kind of thinking and sharing on this day of in many ways, senseless celebration of country and a people being flooded, instead of cloaked in some soft meaningful essence... such as your poem brings to those of us remaining humbled as much if not more by the messages Nature provides. Thank you, Richard, for such a celebratory meditation of respect.

Despite the transient nature of our being there is much beauty to behold which you have so elegantly captured with the comparison to the dewdrop. A dewdrop, a diminutive form of life's sustaining ingredient, its creation out of our hands but graciously given to each our individual moment. Your poem speaks to me softly but still with a undeniable force, that our moment should be appreciated for its brilliance .... for its on time of shining brightly in the sun.

There is a second message/feeling/thought which fills me with my second breath ... that we should also "release" with appreciation. Embrace, if you will, the fleeting moment and learn to live whole heartedly in the present with gratitude.

Thank you for sharing your words and wisdom,
jeanne

This poem really is a beautiful reflection of dewdrops, not in and of themselves, but as symbolic reflections of being a part of life in this world, whether it be as dewdrops or as human beings, a life that is fragile, radiant, momentary, and yet complete somehow in its brief shing. Expressive of the wisdom that life itself comes to us as grade only to be released once again back into the light or darkness.
