I love this poem. I started singing the words in song. Oh My God, Connie. This is a beautiful poem! My husband and I, along with his friend from high school, produced a CD entitled, "In The Name." Like children who have no siblings or friends create imaginary friends, for those who are despondent or feel beset upon by life, loneliness, illness or other infirmities, especially as they get older, like the idea of an all caring, totally nonjudgmental god. Someone they can turn to either by talking, writing or singing. Never getting a response. But feeling much better for having gotten something off their chest like a confession or a wish that sometimes, coincidentally, actually happens.

Throughout my life I've had wondrous things happen by chance, many. Bad things have also happened, by chance, many. But I know where my strength lies and it is deep within me and the knowledge I have gathered. That's all I need. A dog would be nice as a companion that I could get unconditional love from, but I think it would be hard on the dog's life to live with me. They need to be freer than I could offer. I really hate to see them suffer so in confinement that most people make them endure. At least gods can't be confined because they are imaginary, thank goodness!

Connie, it is so good to hear from you. I haven’t heard from you for a while, and you’ve had me concerned. But here you are, with another of your God-inspired poems. This is so beautiful. I love the way you have described how God speaks to you during times of “helplessness, despondency, and dread”. Thank you for reminding readers that He can speak to each of us in a special way if we will simply listen. One final thing: I tried to pick out something special from your poem that I could talk about. But I couldn’t. Why? I couldn’t because each line or word is either appropriate or extraordinary. Again, I’m glad I got to read one of your inspirational poems again.
