As fall moves closer to winter’s sting,
My thoughts turn to dreams of milder things…
The hot days of summer, the green-ness of spring…
I patiently seek return of birds’ sing.
As leaves turn brown to signal their sleep,
My thoughts turn to days when squirrels creeped…
Stirring back swiftly from hibernations’ deep…
I gloomily unpack last winter’s keep.
For someone like me who favors the heat
The thought of winter means quiet retreat…
And holiday fests with all their good treats…
Plus frequent vacations ‘til Spring’s repeat!
