The sun sets with silent acclaim
On your pale beloved features in the dim glow;
I touch your cold hand with tears of goodbye,
This last time that I’ll ever see your face...
As the casket lid closes between you and me.
As the sun sets in an orange warmed sky,
Memories come pouring through my mind
Thousands of sunsets, of youth and growing,
Heartbreak sometimes too torturous to bear.
Through it all, you were always there for me
Holding my hand, offering comfort, giving love...
Your gentle voice and strength were my foundation
Telling me, ‘that too shall pass bringing a return of joy’
How many times you felt worrisome pain
When I exercised freedom and willfulness?
Now as a mother, I know what it’s like
To allow one’s own children to walk alone.
You aged slowly, and as the years passed by
I never imagined you would some day die;
Then your beautiful smile began to fade...
Illness damaged your life before my eyes.
Now, I sing farewell hoping your spirit soars
With the angels in heaven near the throne of God.
May you rest like a healthy sleeping child...
Until when the coffin lid closes on me,
And we meet for an eternal sunrise together.
THIS TRIBUTE IS SUCH A TOUCHING PORTRAIT OF THE STRONG BOND OF LOVE THAT EXISTS BETWEEN A MOTHER AND HER CHILD...NOT JUST IN THIS EARTH BUT FOREVER. I FELT YOUR LOSS AND YOUR HOPE IN TOMORROW. THANKS FOR SHARING AND GOD BLESS. LOVE, JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
Didn't realize you had lost your spouse this year. Where was I. Or did I just forget. Anyway know what you went through experienced it, and sad but their spirits are still with us always. So sad but our lives go on as best we can make of it. Love and prayers go out to you today. So sorry again.
Jeanette,
Reading your poem, I was reminded of President Reagan's sunset burial and witnessing Nancy's pained face, knowing that she would never again (in this life) see her "Ronnie" again.
I, too, am sorry for your loss, but I know, one blessed day, you will be reunited again.
What a touching farewell to a loving spouse and surely you can rely he will be there to greet you in the hereafter where your love will last forever. I am sorry for your loss.
Intuitively, I know I've lived many lifetimes, and none more interesting than the one I'm living now. However, being born an old soul somehow did not excuse me from the same job I share with you and that is learning to craft a positive attitude about
