Mary Marie on the Moon

Mary Marie stole a flight
on a star bound for the moon
She said don't expect me back
to the planet earth real soon

I'm quite excited to be going
to a place so far away
I might be back tomorrow
or I might decide to stay

I'll slide down dusty craters
and climb the other side
I'll find the lem we left there
and take it for a ride

I'll hopscotch on a sidewalk
that stretches for a mile
I'll ask the moon how he makes
that crooked little smile

I'll ask him why occasionally
he hides us from the sun
Is that his idea of having
interplanetary fun

What did he think of those funny men
those pillsbury rock collectors
Did it tickle when they used
their chilly metal detectors

After I've played around all day
and am ready to retire
I'll sit with dog and moonyman
and warm me by the fire

When I'm ready to come back
I'll put away my dream
And slowly waken up to earth
on morning golden beams

My moon said, Mary Marie
When you meet your one and only
I'll shine for you on darkest night
and never leave you lonely

Goodnight, Mary Marie
