An unborn child asks, "Why do you want to kill me, Mommy? Why?"

Oh, Dear God, Tell Me Why!

                             We began with love

                             You felt my presence

You delivered me into this world

When I cried my first tears

You were there, and I knew love

You eased my hunger with your nursing

I smiled my first smile, and you laughed

At my first step, you glowed with twinkling eyes

And when I fell, I cried again

You were there, and I knew love

It was my first day of school

My first gift to you:  a clay handprint

My heart skipped a beat with my first boyfriend

And my heart stopped with heartache

You were there, and I knew love

                             I graduated high school

                             My first job

                             My first independence

You nodded approval of my first lover

You were there, and I knew love

You oohed and aahed at my diamond ring

And sighed and smiled at my wedding

                             When your son-in-law hugged you

                             My heart overflowed with joy

You were there, and I knew love

                             You were radiant and crying

When you held your first grandchild

I knew that I had given you

The gift of the Circle of Life

You were there, and I knew love

All these miracles will be our lifetime treasures

To warm your heart and fill your soul

So why?  Oh, why, Mommy do you want

To end my life before I can share it with you?

I am here, now, and I love you

                             I don’t understand, Mommy

We began in love and I filled your heart

Yet you cry over me and say

That I am someone that can never be

I am here, now, and I love you

                             You whisper the word abortion

And talk of ending my life

                             And I don’t understand

Why do you want to kill me?

I am here, now, and I love you

                             Talk with a friend, Mommy

                             Talk with your doctor, Mommy

Others want me.  Why don’t you?

Do you know you can get help?

I am here, now, and I love you

In pain, I am crying my last tears

And begging you for our life together

Oh, Mommy, I hurt so bad!

Why do you want to kill me?  Why?

I am here, now, and I love you

                             I love you, Mommy

                             I love you!

Why do you want to kill me, Mommy?

                             Why?

Oh, Dear God, tell me why!

                                                 Author's Footnote (updated)
In the throes of the economic Great Depression of the early 1930s, a young
woman pregnant with twin baby boys attempted a self-abortion.
One unborn baby boy died, the other survived.

As I approach my 80th birthday, I thank God for the gift of my life and the life of
my two daughters and my two sons, the life of my two grandsons and the life of
my great-granddaughter, none of whom would have been born had I not survived.
I am blessed beyond belief.  Amen!

Knowingly to abort or Abortion means killing an unborn child, weather on the first day or three months , it is the same,
It is wrong as wrong as a murder could be. Do we kill all the sick and poor people of the world...? It is just to keep the conscious of the people all this is said, I jst wish and pray no one should go through this dilemma in life to throw a way a baby blooming within one self... I have been very licky in life never to have gone through such a situation in life. The men it is I feel who need to be more careful, in this , do not go for unprotected sex , when one is not sure

HAVING MADE THIS AWFUL CHOICE MORE THAN ONCE IN MY LIFE, THE REALIZATION OF THE DEPTHS OF THIS MURDEROUS SIN DID NOT BECOME CLEAR TO ME UNTIL I SURRENDERED MY LIFE TO JESUS CHRIST. WHEN THE GUILT FLOODED MY SOUL, I REPENTED AND HE, IN HIS TENDER MERCY AND LOVE, FORGAVE AND WASHED ME CLEAN. THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW JESUS CHRIST, DO SUCCUMB TO THE 'PRESSURES' OF THIS WORLD AND OFTEN CHOOSE TO TRY AND 'ESCAPE' BRINGING A CHILD INTO THE WORLD BY CONVINCING THEMSELVES THAT IT IS BEST FOR THE CHILD, RATHER THAN TRUSTING GOD TO TAKE THEM THROUGH. YOUR POEM, IS A BEAUTIFUL REMINDER OF THE JOYS AND BLESSINGS THAT ONE MISSES (OF WHICH YOU ARE A PERFECT EXAMPLE) WHEN THEY REJECT THE GIFT OF NEW LIFE THAT GOD IS GIVING THEM. AS I LISTENED, I WAS TOUCHED DEEPLY AND CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT YOUR READING SHOULD BE MADE AVAILABLE AT ALL ABORTION SITES (ON-LINE AND OFF) TO BE READ BEFORE MANY MAKE THE MISTAKE OF MAKING THE TERRIBLE DECISION TO ABORT. THANK YOU FOR SHARING. GOD BLESS JOYCE, HIS INSPIRATIONS

I know a person who lost his identical twin. Often he wondered who is blessed: him for surviving or the other who's with God. I have no idea what to say since I lack the experience. So I tell him this, smile in the mirror for the one in Heaven.

I'm sorry for what has happened to you, Mr. Orey but you are bless by God's grace for a wonderful family.

My prayers are with you.

This is a beautiful and very emotional and evocative poem...I lost a baby.. Kiara ..many years ago, and they called her a 'missed abortion' as she died inside me...I always hated the term...I was put with young women who were having abortions....The sadness remains from this time..
This piece says what should be said to young women contemplating this life changing action...Love, Diana

I am weeping and my heart felt every word of this beautifully worded and expressed poem. Abortion is murder, not birth control. I was a hole in the rubber baby and my Mama hated me for crashin her party. I was unwanted, unloved, but allowed to stay, by my Mama, but GOD always loved me and cared, so I am special in HIS eyes! Very good question. Womens' rights are fine until they usurp the rights of innocent children, then they are not fine at all. We don't know how many geniuses have been aborted, or how many childless couples have been denied their right to give unconditional love to an otherwise unwanted child. Panic mode and hasty decisions are often the downfall of many a decent woman or man. There's my two cents worth. A fine read, thankyou J'nia

You are living proof that your life was meant to be lived. I am sorry for her emotional frame of mind, and also the loss of a twin sibling. Abortion is a very sensitive subject & the reasons & beliefs anyone chooses towards it. I imagine she was very distraught to attempt such a horrific way to find some resolve to her feelings/beliefs about being pregnant. I seen a most heartwarming commercial that gave me chills. This woman is talking about not being ready to be a Mom while driving (her thoughts spoken) all you can see is her pregnant belly by the steering wheel. She goes on to say how much she loves her baby, she says “I love you enough to give you the very best I possibly can & that is a Family to love you...I get all teary...

What a heartwrenching poem about such a controversial subject. It's not for me to judge the decisions some women make when they find themselves in a difficult situation, but if they stopped to consider the unborn child's point of view, as you have done, maybe the decision would not be so difficult after all. Amazing poem, Richard, and the author's note -- you were the twin that survived -- that's an amazing story!

So well written Richard and with

the ending of many stanza:

You were there, and I knew love.

That's the way it is with God's perfect love.

But then came man/woman who know

not the heart & mind of God,but

only understand their selfish heart

....hence abortion!

I love your voice that not only

speaks the poem, but effectively

cries the unborn child's cry:

Why do you want to kill me, Mommy?

For the life of me I do not understand

how anyone in thier right mind

cannot see abortion is murder.

Bless you for posting this, love Holly

Richard,

An interesting twist mid-current. I often believe had abortion not been created what a different world it would be. Unfortunately, the aborting mother probably wouldn't have done all the nifty things mentioned prior to the idea.

We each enter heaven on our own merits.

Thank you, ~Donna.

Richard,

Tell me why? Some feel they have no choice. Some feel the baby is not a baby yet. For whatever reason ... but no one considered the voice of the little one, as you've so powerfully penned here ... undone by the tears this one brings. Thank you.
