I went for a drive yesterday
Around the town where I live,
And what I saw is hard to say
But I will try and strive
To tell you about it today.
Johnson-Shutins was flooded in 2005
When the Union Electric dam broke
And pushed all the gallons in a drive
Down the hills on a path to choke
All the life in the valley, taking those alive.
Caretaker and family awoke to the rush,
And heard the waters coming.
Watching as the river gorge hushed,
Crossing fingers and songs humming,
They were in the water’s clutch.
Helicopters and planes flew overhead
And saw the awful destruction from above.
As they watched little dots that looked like heads
Appear in the river flow; out of hurt and love
They grabbed those people and headed for safe beds.
All that was two years ago
And we must not forget
That God is still in control
Of all He created but will never let
This earth see the same goal
Of devastation.
Next time, by fire…
Pray as a Nation
And follow God’s desire
To live at peace and find our station
In the Heavens above.
