A parishioner said, “Father Pat,
I’d like you to bury my cat
Who sadly died last night
Of a terrible feline blight!”
The priest’s reply was curtful
“Sorry, don’t mean to be hurtful
But I can’t say a prayer for a cat
And that, dear woman, is that!’
Said the lady, now sad and nervous,
“To arrange a special service
I had intended to spend
A thousand dollars to send
My pussycat on her way
To face her judgment day,
And then to enjoy for aye
Cats’ Haven in the sky;”
The priest then gulped and spluttered;
Sotto voce gently muttered,
“Well now, dear lady, how about that!
Why didn’t you say she’s a Catholic cat?”

What rhythm, what rhyme, what hilarity! I will be tucking this away in my library AND my private collection (also known as Documents in Word) but "private collection" sounds ever so much fancier, wouldn't you agree? (grin)
With your busy life and your gorgeous, brilliant offspring and family, you've been away, so to take the time to honor my silly challenge with your gift of rhyme tickles me entirely.
Now, I will shamelessly use this space to ask if you have read my short story (the only one I have posted) called I am not a Catholic? If, by chance, you spent any time as one, you might get a chuckle from this... as time allows, of course.
Thank you soooooooooo much, Patrick. I do, indeed, LOVE this piece. katy xox

It does have a funny point of view.
Love,

Hope that was not your personal cat,
For if it were, my condolances for your loss,
Maybe instead of burial you could make him in a fur hat...? Ed
