God Bless America, If She Must

In a world gone mad, but not in a good way,

I retain my sanity, by writing some poetray.

Religion moves into U.S. Government - no reason, no rhyme,

  creating a holy new meaning to organized crime.

Freedom of speech?  It depends on the text,

if not from their book, your persecution may be next!

The Bible; allegoric fables based on hearsay at best;

is truth for the easily impressionable, unrealistic for the rest.

The Christian Right are neither, how can they be,

with their history of hypocritical murderous atrocity?

Trusted priests take on an ugly face;

proving to be morally reprehensible as they fall from grace.

There is no science of “Creationism”,

Mother Goose, Aesop, or the Brothers Grimm.

If the wise among us understand peoples’ need for a God,

Why then does, “Do unto others, …” sound so odd?

Right-to-lifers claim abortion is murder, but it’s only just a matter of time,

‘til they send their children to die in an unjust war.  Now which is the crime?

Every religion has its’ hero with a miraculous history.

How one can be conceived as better than another still remains a mystery!

Spirituality, don’t it feel great?

… to experience spiritual ecstasy without the weight!

Heaven; if it’s such a paradise,

then what was God’s big sacrifice?

To have his martyred son join him sounds swell,

so why wasn’t it a real sacrifice, like hell.

… and while on this subject, …

God Bless America, if she must,

but let’s pluralize it and be just.

Or better yet, let’s put all fairy tales to rest,

it’s time for intelligence to reign – the best! 

If not, then know this, …

my people; the ones not under the spell,

we’re only 15%, but once united, we’ll give ‘em their hell!

So, with the use of the history-proven percentage for successful revolution;

 humans will have the opportunity to move toward illumination,

… and become Enlightened.
