two playing hooky for the day

taking off

when they shouldn't

putting on

what what they want

saying to hell

with the routine

popping the top

daring to be seen

as they fly down

the heated road

nothing on their minds

but another cold beer

along the way

chasing the sun's rise

music molding the scene

of the sheer joy

of letting the clock go

punching out on expectations

and the workload

moving into the wind

not sure where they'll land

but at least for a few hours

reminding themselves

of the youth still

rampant inside

and of what it means

to be free

'cause being free

is what it's all for

and being free

is to live and breathe

to be part of life's revelry

as season turns upon season

and the daylight takes

a lot longer to ease

into the night,

sitting by firefly light

reading the lines

on one another's

minds and nursing

the moon into

another evening

with you in the shadows

of the Houston skyline.
