Admittedly abstract. You must read carefully and recognize the speaker and the audience to understand this poem. If you give up trying to figure it out, just scroll beyond the end of the poem to view the identities of the speaker and the audience, at which point the meaning should become crystal clear.

Poem Artwork

You opened the door

And invited me in

Thinking you wanted me

But you really didn’t

Because you had no idea

What I held in store for you.

Now, here we are

Together

Forever

Inseparable:

I

Your black ghost

And you

Cold and deep

In desolation, despair, defeat

Having exchanged one darkness for another.

You chose a permanent solution

To a temporary problem

And though your spirit wails in regret

Your decision is irreversible.

The speaker is Death. The audience is a person who has committed suicide.

I didn't need to figure out the last sentence because your words are written well enough to be self explanatory.

Spooky poem.

Sometimes death only gets one foot through the door and the persons instant reaction is to throw death out faster than it came in. Well written, thanks for sharing.

"Permanant solutions for temporary problems" and "Exchanging one darkness with the other"..... That is what we call LIFE. Hope is the steering wheel but then the question is whether all the four wheels are there or not. I have a worm-eye-view right sitting in an abysse. Adam had the same tendency and he sinned by eating the "tree of knowledge"

If you have not watched the movie "Crush" please do so.
This very deep and beautiful poem testifies your muse and uniqueness. Thanks.

Macey, regardless of what Richard says, this is a compellingly haunting poem. It strikes deep down into the soul, and picks and gnaws it away. Sometimes our irreversible decisions are not our own, and we live the life we were given at birth, whether right or wrong.

Dark, Deep, Compelling, Haunting, Intense, Cryptic. These words describe this poem, because we have "exchanged one darkness for another," in our short, lonely, and desolate lives. But regardless tho, I agree with Amy and echo that this poems rocks. Thanx for sharing this with us, Macey.

May the Lord Jesus bless you, and those whom you love, and be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & ((((((((((MANY WONDERFUL SISTERLY HUGGGGSSSS)))))))))), your little sister, Barbie

Nothing really cryptic here!
During the extent of my life, especially when I was a professional musician flying all over hells half acre, I would run into many people that had made pacts with the devil. Life will take everyone through dark seasons where most become utterly confused, frustrated, despondent, and desirous of something "better" never realizing that there are eternal consequences to all of our choices.
Free will, what a mighty sword to bear!

I will quote from Edgar Allen Poe.
The first stanza of the DOOMED CITY.

Lo . . . death has reared himself a throne
In a strange city lying alone
Far down within the dim west
Where the good and the bad and the worst and the best
Have gone to their eternal rest
There shrines and palaces and towers
Time eaten towers that tremble not
Resemble nothing that is ours
Around, by lifting words forgot
Resignedly beneath the sky, the melancholy waters lie.

Being purposely abstract might seem cool, but I believe that readers coming away edified and enriched is a much loftier goal.
Keep striving
Richard
