He was fair and she was brown
He smiled a lot, she wore a frown
He saw the beauty, she saw the pain.
But underneath, beneath the skin, they were the same.
He was rich, she worked a lot.
He loved the beach, she loved the rock.
They met and glanced, they smiled and touched.
For underneath, beneath the skin they were the same.
He loved the sun, she loved the rain
They shared their thoughts, their hopes, their pain.
They walked the beach and holding hands
They met the wave that rose and came.
Dragged underneath, beneath the sea,
Still holding hands they ceased to be.
For underneath, beneath the skin,
They were the same.
