Heat to warm the bones
Leaves to dapple too bright a light
Ice cold water to quench a thirst
And a cat that purrs in contentment on my lap.
Fires that roar through parched and drooping bush
Ants that steal the seed from out of furrows
Beer that cheers my husband's heart
Summer so full of joys and woes.
