Huitain - A Spanish form of poetry, the huitain revolves around the number eight - there are eight lines in the poem, and each line contains eight syllables. The rhyme scheme is ababbcbc.


MIDSUMMER'S PAUSE

Spring's sweet fragrance flutters from view,
exhausted by May's song-filled blast.
Grass and leaves exhale in pale hues,
April showers being long past.
Spring's fervor never seems to last,
energy draining all around,
Summer's haze over all things cast.
By Nature's laws our world is bound.
