The brook babbled musically nearby.
The sun was rising high up in the sky.
The trees protected the creatures below
with their boughs hanging high and some hanging low.

Dappled sunlight and the oft-shadowed dark
helped to hide busy activities going on in the park.
A group of gnomes and a group of fairies…
brought forth a lunch of nuts and berries.

Sharing and laughing, they came out of their homes.
The fairies weren’t afraid of the laughing gnomes.
Traditionally, enemies, they were no longer so.
Their friendship started from a tiny spark and began to grow.

It is taught in our world and also in theirs
That friendships are built by steps, much like the ones on stairs.
One of the two must offer the branch of friendship first…
and then the other must offer it back with a genuine thirst.

None of these things were evident at the party.
All that can be seen is two groups eating hearty.
Good friendships can’t be shown by any rhymes or reasons…
instead they are known best by the endurance of the seasons.
