Atlantis Lies Dreaming

Drowned beneath the waters
beyond the reach of light,
Atlantis lies dreaming
through dark, eternal night.

Strewn before her altars
bones glisten in the gloom
where priests beseeched the gods
for rescue from their doom.

Amid the crumbled towers
her restless spirit sleeps
and dreams of shining glory
now swallowed in the deeps.

The heavy waters press
a weight upon her walls.
The sea absorbs the sound
a stone makes when it falls.

While men forget her name,
ah, thus  Atlantis dies,
and gentle drifts of mud
conceal her from our eyes.

 Reviews of "Atlantis Lies Dreaming"

Eloquent, poetic pondering on mankind's lost history. Today only the dna of the spawn of those who fled from disaster stricken Atlantis refers to the origins of our earliest ancestors from the previous world. Our history is complex, intentionally hidden, passed on in treacherously manipulated ways. We have become separated from our past. This is a dangerous situation that only few understand. It is cynical that these characters use the knowledge from ancient times to benefit from it without sharing. A token of the ignorance of mankind.

You have captured all the mystique that surrounds Atlantis indeed - in just so many verses! One can tell of your deep fascination for the Lost Continent while reading your poem... A fascination I share and always have had for as long as I can remember! A magnificent poem - a perfect ten! Bravo, Miss Berry!
