This is a "joke" poem originally written for a party where a gift was passed either left or right when the word "left" or "right" was heard.
The Left Right Woman
Myrtle was a woman of great control
Who 'pon the hour would extol
How always she seemed to be right.
And needed to be right.
What's left--
When you're always right?
Myrtle's husband would agree
That she had a definite need to be
Always to be right.
So what was left for him
To be
When she was always right?
So Myrtle's husband was bereft
Of ever being right so left
And left so far as to come back right
To Myrtle even in spite
Of the fact
That she had always to be right.
You know, he left to go another place
But as so often is the case,
When he thinks he knows the way that's right
He chooses the only way that's left
And never stops to make a call
Or ask directions, so I guess
Myrtle was right after all.
