I've lost my job...like most everyone
in a world where nothing is free.
Taxes increasing everywhere
to bailout bankers in this economy.
Food taxes increasing, say it's not so...
only to bail out the Colts and Pacers.
My heart is like an old brick wall...
and Wall Street serves as a defacer.
What does hard work earn today?
Why...a swift kick through a darkened door
as companies close or move away
that can't afford to stay here anymore.
Ripple effect...yes, that does exist!
More jobs fall victim down the line.
We all say prayers under our breath...
"Please Lord, don't let that end be mine"
Neighbor helping neighbor...
that's a novelty that has seemed to slow
due to so many being desperate
and each man having their battle to go.
I thought about closing my poetry site...
another victim to the dollar's woe.
Tears falling most and every night
as we continue to lose all we've ever known...

Well, I haven't lost my job yet, but I've had to take a 5% pay cut, and have been told to take a one week unpaid furlough before the end of the year. The newspaper business is really shaky now. When I walk into the publishing room, it's like a ghost town.
