For any one trapped in domestic verbal or physical abuse....

At the end of the day

sets in the night,

though dark in clear view

is my true life

The smile I wear fades like waves

that move forth then away

on the seashore,

no more,

can I hide what lies inside

In the moonlight,

everything is seen,

unveiled no screen,

the pain of the past

Oh how the consequences of wrong choices last

I lay eyes closed,

longing sleep but none comes,

crying out for relief,

one moment just one

Memories flooding my mind,

back forth the hands of time,

the thought of each error,

punishes me like a crime

Recalling each beating,

one by one,

tortured in a dungeon,

without a glimpse of the sun

Bad love is as strong as death,

it calls out like the grave,

only into a saviors arms can I be saved

The curse of poor choices,

strike me like a fist,

the wrong lover, the wrong life,

too much time spent

Oh God please bring strength,

take the truth,

his threats,

make me forget

Release me anew,

a lamp for my night,

in the day bring a light,

let me hold a life,

a smile true

Lift the weight

of the secrets I bear,

lead me to the life blood,

and quench my thirst there

Guide me through tomorrow,

set me free from his hands,

unveil the plain truth

Oh how the consequences of wrong choices last

I pray freedom from shame,

endow upon me faith

and grace,

the sun is rising,

the light of day I must face

Lift this bridal veil of lies,

that poorly covers my shame,

baptize me into a new life,

give me back my maiden name.

This is a powerful and heartfelt poem.I just hate it when a man wants to abuse a woman just to make himself feel powerful and not appreciate the love that he has right in front of him.take care

A harsh and honest write, Sophia; timely and sadly real in this world\life. Thank you. Love and best wishes,

Whew this is definitely a big contrast from the story I just read but I think the ending is miraculous. Those last lines are like watching an actor running to escape the furious flames of the big explosion at the end of a action movie. Then the actor suddenly turning back to stare at the flames and say "I made it!" We'll sista looks like you made it and keep on extinguishing the flames outside and finding your own new light to your dreams that God has waiting for you.

LOve this stark naked write!
I was HERE for 19 years till my STrenth took me far away form THERE!
I chose NOT to have my maiden name, for that is where my Abuse started and then went on through my marriage, 1 and 2nd to the same man. A fool I was trying to make it LASTS, but it takes TWO as My eyes opened wider to the TRuth!
Saved you are and STrength you have found!
These lines are straight from the heart, of a caring sincere loving soul!
Write On!
as Healing is taken it's place!
Warmest Blessings and Inner Peace, Warrior Purple PaSsion Lady -She-

"...only into a saviors arms
can I be saved'
'...give me back
my maiden name". Oh this poem can really strike one straight to the heart, every word was like a lash. Whoever is in abuse needs to escape, then run without fail to a safety zone. You really poured it out here and sent out the cries of the hearts of many, many who are terrorized in this manner on a daily basis and throughout the day.
OooooI absolutely DO NOT LIKE ABUSE in any form whatsoever.

Thank you Sophia for sharing your words and I pray this is no one that we know (but it is not for anyone on this earth)
Sincerely,
~Gwendolyn
