'Each object blending Into its’ surrounding . . .'

Enclosed coach racing Four horses pulling Passengers scared inside War party chasing. Dust kicking up Bows and arrows Shotgun throwing buck Gravestones never emerged. Time – the present StageCoach Indian land 140 years later Debt not settled. Scene repeatedly played Over and over Indian souls taken Desperately wanted back. Not easily seen By naked eyes All ghostly figures Been dead years. Bad memories peeled Layer after layer All that’s left Clothes and war-paint. Each object blending Into its’ surrounding Will eventually fade After souls released. Scene one take 140 – no escape Moments still creeping Like rusted chains. Indians beliefs undying Shatters the silence Loved ones mourning Plain’s stay darkened. Each second lingers Infinite and eternal Emotions hard chiseled Will live on . . . ? Ó2009 R. Lance Sheridan

Lance,
This took me back to much earlier days watching Westerners in the cinema, but you go far beyond that and take me to the plight of those who suffer throughout history at the conquering hands of others. Well done!

Despite and because of Hollywood's Schmalz...emotions and dark shadows will live on...but not forever, Lance. This country is still so young..do we hear the cries of sorrow uttered from all those people and nations who have been vanquished over the centuries? No. Only literature reminds us of their plight..history lessons if we're lucky.

Great poem, though, good question and a fine picture to go with it.
