Inflation
Inflation, Inflation, Inflation damnation.
I work and slave and try to save
But can’t get past that tidal wave
I apply my skills and pay my bills
But all that’s left is that stuff that kills.
Inflation, Inflation, Inflation damnation.
Adam Smith said the Invisible hand would
Lead us all to The Promised Land
But I’m flat broke and that’s no joke
My pay won’t buy me a pig in a poke.
Inflation, Inflation, Inflation damnation.
I took my case down to city hall
They said they couldn’t care less about my big shortfall
“Stop your whinin' while we’re here dinin’
And take your cares where the sun ain't shinin’.”
Inflation, Inflation, Inflation damnation.
My money’s shrinkin’ and I’ve been thinkin’
I couldn’t be saved by ol’ Abe Lincoln
The rich don’t care that my shoes’ are worn bare
Just don’t ask them for another pair.
Inflation, Inflation, Inflation damnation.
I guess I’ll find me a slot at the old poor house
Where I’m on equal terms with a dead head louse
I can’t even pay for a hole in the ground
My money’s not worth a penny a pound.
Inflation, Inflation, Inflation damnation.
Just mark my grave with paper and pen
‘Cause I’m never comin’ back to this place again
Write these words on that plain white sheet
“He left with nuthin’ ‘cept total defeat.”

Please note that I am not a comedian, and probably not a very good humorist,. Still, this is all intended to be FUNNY, not serious.
Inflation, Inflation, Inflation, damnation...that and a lot more.
Cheers,
Dan
Sooner or later there is scarcity. And when there is scarcity, the price, inevitably, goes up. When many prices go up, we have inflation. When our paper and electronic money becomes useless, we fall back on the goods and commodities we have that we can trade. Woe is me. Few of us have tradable assets.
So many seniors rely on fixed income to carry them through long retirement. Inevitably, prices rise and they get caught in the trap of negative cash flow.
Your poem holds a hidden warning for all of those that think they can survive on fixed income until the end of their days.
