Autumn Afternoon No. 17
Cappuccino me at four
Pen and paper prepared
for caffeine and ambiance inspiration
A woman in a green felt feathered hat
screams ”I wanted my croissant plain.
Scrape off the chocolate,
wrap it. I’ll take it home to my cat.”
A classic drunk in the corner,
roused from a twenty minute nap
asking for whiskey,
discourages the waiter:
“For the last time, sir, this is
a coffee bar.”
In a park framed by my window seat,
a man glides a metal detector
over and over the green grass
of a baseball field.
I wave at him in recognition.
Two men searching in vain;
he for trinkets in earth,
I for meaning in random images.
In Spirit,
Bear
