Catching Happiness...

For Michele. Celebrating 8 months cancer free.

Poem Artwork
And just like that, the world felt lighter.
.
Happiness can’t be conjured
It comes from deep within
A cool breeze wafting over
Not some restless wind
.
A breeze so fresh and freeing
Like the air itself were kin
Joy gives the heart its laughter
A carefree song to sing
.
Happiness stirs without warning
A flame that leaps from the heart
With feelings that fold back the shadows
Radiant right from the start
.
A joy so full of sweetness
It teaches the lungs to sing
Each breath a small cathedral
Vibrant with what it brings
.
Happiness leaps ‘tween seconds
Spilling its light then gone
A spark that blooms in downcast eyes
That doesn’t last too long
.
So let your heart remember
That happiness starts within
A cool breeze blowing outward
Not some restless wind
.

Beautifully expressed, Richard.
"teaches the lungs to sing'... Amen!

This is such an uplifting poem, as someone who has experienced cancer...both my husband and I...your very first line, "And just like that, the world felt lighter," expressed it all. Thank you for putting into words what so many are feeling and going through.
I'm so happy for you,

Myra

Congratulations to Michelle. Now that's something to be happy about. You are so right about happiness coming from within and showing without.

For example, your image. When a beautiful woman smiles like that at me, I can't help but be happy. Or even over a simple accomplishment or completion. A contentment before you go to bed. That's happiness.

Yes, indeed, within it starts. I for one have found such bliss in reconciling experiences of the past, both pleasant and regretful. As your poem emphasizes, happiness can come in "'tween seconds" and it can be made more lasting when "resless wind" subsides. Any of us reading this poem should feel the truth and insite your words convey. Thank you, Richard. I often think so many try to find happiness in empty hope. Within, like so many realms of feeling tryly alive, comes from within. Inspired writing. Thank you.

The world feels lighter indeed after such a diagnosis. Cancer is such a scourge, to be free of it such a blessing. A lovely, uplifting piece. The breeze you describe feels like an enriching blessing—perfect for marking Michele’s eight months cancer free. A warm and hopeful tribute.
