I've been in the humor business for over forty years, and when I first starting building my website, I knew there would be plenty of humor. But, I wanted more than that. I wanted my website to be interesting as well. To do that, I had to write articles in various topics...that would be interesting to the general public...articles about the environment; health issues; quitting smoking; losing weight and so forth.
At the time I had to decide, if I would go into the free content market and give my articles away OR go into the paying markets. I decided to go into the free markets and to try to build a resume in writing. That's one of the best decisions I've made in writing. Getting all those rejection slips in the paying markets, would have certainly broken my confidence in writing. Something I didn't need then...and I don't need it now, either!
In August 2006, I began posting my articles at EzineArticles.com (article directory), and they kept the numbers for me. Article directory address;
It wasn't until a few months later, that I posted my articles at Author's Den.
I don't consider myself an expert at anything, so the reader will see a wide range of topics that I have chosen to write about. This is an excellent opportunity for the reader to see what has worked for me...and what has not. Young people out there should know early on, that you're not going to win them all...so don't try! Just do the best you can...and you'll be fine.

Article title: Auto Racing: Ladies...Start Your Engines! This is the only piece, that is totally imagined. I won't give the ending of the piece, but the hardest thing to do in this piece, was to name all the women drivers in the Indy 500 race. Names such as Candy Barr; Misty Moonlight; Kitty Litter; Penney Arcade, etc. This piece raced its way up and around other articles, and now occupies the #9 spot out of 126, which is amazing to me that this piece has done so well. http://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewarticle.asp?id=43279
From Serious to humor:
Article title: The Benefits of Exercise: This is the only piece, that started out as a serious piece...and ended up as a humor piece! That's because I wrote it as a serious piece, and about two weeks later, I included a few quotes from other people, and it became a humor piece. The humor had nothing to do with me...but with the other people's quotes. http://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewarticle.asp?id=42720
This piece debuted at number one:
Article title: Diabetes On the Rise: I had only written about 30 articles in early 2007, when I wrote this piece. And, it's the only piece, that debuted at number one, with more than 225 (overnight) hits at the time. It stayed at number one for over four months, and in the top ten list of hits//views for over two years. http://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewarticle.asp?id=45316
Same article written a year apart:
Dealing With the Inevitable...DEATH! I wrote this piece in early 2007, and it bombed for about three months and went no place! I pulled it off the list and placed it on the back-burner. About a year later, I tried it again...changed the title to All Of Us Are Going to Die Sooner or Later. I re-arranged the text and the order and did some polish work. In 2009, the piece is doing much better, and slowly climbing the charts. The message to young people and beginners in writing...never give up on a writing piece. http://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewarticle.asp?id=42406
Finally...success on the third try!
Article title: Legacy: A Gift of Writing: I wrote this piece three different times and three different ways. The first two were about 1,000 words and both bombed and went no place! I pulled it and put it on the back-burner for awhile. When I re-wrote it a few months later, I cut the words on it., and I changed it to a humor piece. It took off, and in 2009 and after two years, it occupies the #31 spot on the list! Needless to say, I am quite pleased with the way things turned out on this piece. http://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewarticle.asp?id=44359
Records are made to be broken:
Article title: Music: The Beginning of Rock and Roll For Me (1955): When I first wrote this article in 2006, I found it published the next day after it was accepted by the directory (live editor) where I started publishing my articles. At the time, I thought that record would never be broken, as I didn't think I could find an article published any sooner than a day. I was wrong...and after nearly three years...that old record was broken by an article I wrote in March, 2009, entitled, "Isn't a Hero Just Another Sandwich?" I found this piece published on the Internet just two hours after it was accepted by the directory! Amazing! I know one thing for sure..THIS record will never be broken! http://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewarticle.asp?id=45600
Taking chances with my ideas:
As a woodcarver for over 30 years, I took chances with my ideas. And now, in writing, I continue to take chances with my writing pieces. When I wrote the piece entitled, The Negative Side of Humor, I took a chance because of its approach. The piece is hard-hitting; tell it like it is, and at the time, I thought I would have to tone it down, etc. I went with it to see what and how it would do in front of the public, and to my surprise, it has climbed into the #6 spot in the hits list. This has been important to me, because of the success of this piece, I have been able to write many more pieces in such a manner. http://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewarticle.asp?id=43195
Going nowhere FAST!
For nearly six months, this piece wondered around at the bottom of the pile, going from side to side and not much movement upward. There didn't seem to be much interest in this piece. What to do? I think the piece was as good as I could do with it, and so I decided to change the title. After the title change, the piece exploded, and started rising to the top of the list...passing all the other articles and leaving them in the dust in both my directory and at my writing site! This is my #1 article at both places! Amazing what will happen with a title change! Article title: Here's the Skinny On How I Lost 40 Pounds; http://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewarticle.asp?id=26219
Translated into another language:
Every time an article gets published for the writer...it's an honor...whether it be in free content or in the paying markets. It can especially be an honor, if the article is translated into another language. After all, somebody has to take the time to translate it, etc. The only piece (that I know of) was translated into Spanish (Spain) and the title is as follows; Article title:Ten Million People Have Diabetes and Don't Know It; http://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewarticle.asp?id=39435
Making a difference:
This is the only article (that I know of), that an email window was put right in the middle of the article, and invites kids and parents to write for information of drug abuse and its dangers. I must say, this is quite rewarding to have happen to one of your writing pieces. Article title: Peer-Pressure...It's
Patience is a virtue:
Article title: Halloween: The Two-Headed Monster: I've always thought this was one of my best articles, but for the first six months, I couldn't find this piece published anywhere on the Internet! It was getting quite frustrating to say the least! Then...all of a sudden, I found it published...and then again and again...and in 2009...this is my most published article and has been published on 35 different websites on the Internet. The advice to young people out there...patience! http://www.authorsden.com/visit/viewarticle.asp?id=24986

- 11 articles are of a serious nature;
- 9 articles are humorous or humor-related;
Needless to say, I am quite pleased with the balance of my articles.
The bad and the ugly: About ten of my articles are in a coma and in need of emergency care! I think three or four of these articles are a few of my best, but the public doesn't seem to think so! What to do? (boo-hoo/sob-sob!) I've done everything I can to improve them, but they're going nowhere! Young people out there have to learn...you can't win them all.
"You can't wait for inspiration...you have to go after it with a club." Jack London
With more than 90 articles, having been published on nearly 500 websites on the Internet over my first three years...it has been way beyond my expectations! I am so thankful to all the website owners and people interested in my work!
