"Is it that no one wants to be with me / Or are these only shadows which I see / The glass half-empty equally half-full?"

Poem Artwork

Transcendental Sonnet #1339:
Too Late

Is it that no one wants to be with me
Or are these only shadows which I see
The glass half-empty equally half-full?

I feel so lost between the push and pull
Of up and down nowhere and everwhere
The dialectic of hope and despair

The hope once seen I struggle now to see
Feeling haunted avoided and alone
Is it too late for love to be set free?

Alone with fate I feel you turn away
I thought I knew but I have never known
Is it too late for me as ends the day?

You turn away from me as turns eternity
Too late for me apparently too late for me

This is heartwrenchingly sad, Steven. We all want to be loved and understood but sometimes we feel as though both of those things shall elude us forever. That is not so and in order to be loved we must be open to it because love it a gift that we give to ourself. No other soul can do that for us.
Take care,
Sherry

You captured an emotion that we all feel and captured it fairly well. Good piece.
