Just hum any old Country bar room tune to these lyrics and see if there's magic. I've dedicated this song to my Aunt Aileen who recently lost her husband, my Uncle Bob. They were married for over 60 years.

A Sad Song For Someone I woke up this morning, your pillow was cold Then I remembered what I had been told An angel had called you and you could not refuse Now I’m left all alone with this bottle of booze But thank you sweet Jesus for the memories Sometimes things just don’t turn out so well Now all I have left are the memories Without them I’d be living in Hell You came into my life like a hurricane You filled up my rivers with love Every day filled with passion and happiness Sent down from heaven above But thank you sweet Jesus for the memories Sometimes things just don’t turn out so well Now all I have left are the memories Without them I’d be living in Hell You were funny and silly and beautiful No one else will ever compare All the love you provided now seems so one sided How I wish I had treated you fair. Patrick, as you suggest there does seem to be a bit of similarity here. My poem is between 10 and 15 years old. I only posted it now because the 19th was my wife's birthday and I like to honor her each year at this time. I now have a special lady in my life who comes from similar circumstances. We each occasionally write to honor our departed. She is from Saline, Michigan which is not far from Jackson either. Thanks for suggesting I read this one. It's a keeper. Dick

A sorrowful refrain, yet it speaks of gratitude and hope. This is a great song, I caught the melody as I was reading. Seek to publish, won't you?

This is indeed a sad song...a song that I wish no one had to endure...for I once myself sung those very words in effect, but the sun still shines and hope is ever present even in this...well done in this capture.
