When I asked her to dance
One Saturday night
I felt a bit lonesome
But I thought that she might
A pretty smile on her face
She was there with a friend
I couldn’t resist her
My night would depend
On a simple yes or no
A request from my heart
For a chance on the dance floor
That would give us a start
When her answer was yes
My heart skipped a beat
My knees got all wobbly
I could not move my feet
So she gently persuaded
Me onto the floor
I was feeling so nervous
Never like this before
Then she danced with me
Slowly melting into my arms
And that’s when I fell for
Her sweet loving charms
I can never forget
her fragrant perfume
As we glided together
And lit up that room
The music transformed us
like a couple in love
I felt like an angel had
Been sent from above
I wondered how long that
This feeling would last
And that’s when I learned of
A love in her past
Her heart had been taken
A long time ago
By somebody else
But that I had to know
And that’s when I heard
What her eyes softly said
Saying thanks for the sweet dance
And away she was led
My night ended smiling
And I’ll always recall
Far better a short dance
Than no dance at all
And I’ll always recall
Far better a short dance
Than no dance at all
I agree Patrick. This is very nicely expressed; I love the flow - rhyme and rhythm. Love and peace,
