soon as we can

albeit on time

catching the 7.45.

Always on time

come rain or come shine

set in steel

is this route of mine

like me a creature of habit

so the train runs

nothing can stop it,

at least until

yes it had to come

cut backs economy

the lines days numbered

gone.

Lost are the tracks

now a nature walk

a place where at night time

playful foxes stalk.

The platform is still here

where I stand

even a faded timetable

behind a cracked glass display,

says the 7.45 

its running today.

Can almost hear it

out there in the realm

running on time

along ghostly tracks

stopping at halts

that sadly

will never come back.

Memories running forever

just as I have always done

in my head

it still thrives,

at least till my days

they are numbered

like that train,

then a generation

will never have known

it had ever ran.
