Degrading

The agony of depression and disrespect

Can make you act so stupid

You lose self-respect and starts degrading yourself

You just cannot see beauty within yourself

When you look at yourself in the mirror

You criticize every part of you

Looking deep into your own eyes

Seeing nothing but hate for the self

Thinking what’s this all about

Asking

Why and when did it go this far?

Where did it go wrong?

Why do I hate myself so much?

Is it the lack of inner beauty or strength?

Or is it…

Not knowing… how to feel loved?

Always hearing the negative about yourself

All the “if only’s” that could never be

Then some day someone tells you

It’s okay… it’s fine… it’s good

Even beautiful

And you do not know how to handle it

How to react to it

You start acting stupid

Not knowing how to handle respect

Or even maybe love from another

And the agony of depression

And disrespect for the self

Pushes the beauty of life

So far away…

Never to be found again

Beautiful and wise, Tinka! Yes, sometimes we see our beauty in someone else's eyes and it is so foreign to our experience that we sadly reject it...

Tinka you have really captured depression and all that it does and all that is doing to me today. Thanks so much for this poem of strength. I'm going to quit acting so stupid i'm going to try anyway. My life in a poem written by you. Thank you Tinka

The song you picked to go with this emotional write is perfect and a great description of this type of emotion and its affects.

A write filled with understanding and compassion. Sometimes it is hard to see ourselves as others do, but I am with Eileen on this one (yikes scary). You are a great poet; therefore, you must also be a great person.

But we can find it again, and you know I've been to hell and back on that one. What a staggeringly poignant write, Tinks. Thumbs up to you! Sorry I haven't been over lately. Everytime I'd say, now I've got to hit Tinka's spot, something would interrupt me. LOL Keep writing up the storms, lady. Oh, my, I didn't realize until the end of my review that Jerry and I both used the same word in our applause. So, there you've gone and done it. You rock! ;-)~~Nordette

Oh Tinks! I wish I could be there to pal around, hug, and convince you of just how worthy a person you are. You surely captured every nuance of low self-esteem and depression. It could have only come from real experience, and I hate to think of you really feeling this way. Reach out to the one that loves you more than any other, and let HIM lift you to the heights you belong, Sis! It is a stellar write on the topic!

Love,
Eileen
