I found this poem this morning and it has gripped me all day. It needs the freedom of reviewers once again.
We must never forget the loyalty we owe our veterans for the fight they gave us and the world...for freedom.
Please read and think about the past for me. War hits everyone and it can reach into a heart and kill it without being near.

Viet Nam Loss
Tis' a shame life has dealt me a blow such as this.
To close my eyes nightly and blow you this kiss,
For the hurt that I caused you and your memory fraught...
With the anguish of sorrow and love that was lost.
From the years of the 60's and 70's, complete,
And the war that was fought, for us a defeat.
In two-fold for me ...and for you... who did wait,
And the toll of our love and the war that brought hate.
To a world that stood watching, as the whole scene be damned,
For the two souls left searching and for Viet Nam.
For us...oh so young...with innocent eyes,
The last view I had was of you in the skies.
Soaring away... on a jet, with my prayers...
And a vow... of forever, that didn't prove there.
Our love ever vanished on the wings of this war.
I was left here with fears as you traversed afar.
Away with my hopes and again at all cost,
To a war that was destined and a love that was lost.
My heart has a place for the years that will heal,
And a mind ever needy of a love that can seal...
The despair of the years with forgiving remiss,
For the Love that I loss... I blow you this kiss.
And pray that somehow, with God's smile you'll share,
The thoughts and the memories of a love that was there.
For the letters I wrote and the years of our youth,
For the children we were... but mostly the truth.
That gnaws at me daily, your forgiveness I miss...
My first Love, my soldier...forever this kiss.
This is indeed a sad write which brings forward so many sad memories, I know of many that did not return, who fought valiantly at yet here we are again, in another time of war ,,different but the same,,, a glorious write although sad but lets us remember so many things from the past,,,blessings...Cecil
There is an uproar over the treatment of wounded outpatient soldiers at Walter Reed. What remain is the dispair an loss felt by heroes if injury, disability, or nightmares prevent them from competing in a society quick to forget.
Except for my uncles from WWII, most vets feel that they got a bad deal after returning home. Too many die early and broken from neglect.

Such a sad poem that many can relate to...Well said,
Far too many were lost in that war, and far far too many were then lost to the rest of their lives, when they returned home. And many of them very sadly still wander amongst us today.
Such a beautiful litany of grief for those lost and the years spent in anguish and waiting. My heart aches for you Susan even now, for the memories you must live with! Blessings to you sis!
There are so many who still feel and live the pain of Viet Nam, yet we strive and struggle forward in memory and with memories of the young at heart and the youth of which did not return ...so many lost loves...
an excellent tribute .....very nice work.....Art Sun...
So many young lifes and young loves were lost to the terrible conflict that was Viet Nam. It was a loss no matter how the politicians academics, historians try to justify and glorify it was a defeat of the sadess kind for the young men of a generation were sacrificed in the name of freedom that was never won. Brave boys died in a cause that most of them had no idea of what it was about and only the poets tried to sing the truth...
...and more on the way as we continue to feed out children to our righteous fires. How dare we sit back then and mourn our loss when we are the enemy within. I live in South East Asia among the pristine beauty, charm and innocence of a people with a resurgent smile in spite of it all. And I muse "And we bombed them! and then I cry.

There is not one word wasted here. I know a vet who has been in this war and the stories he tells are atrocious.
Thank you for this poem.
Hugs, Laura
Your words bleed for each and all of us, my dear poet. I know not of your personal involvement during this war, but I've never met anyone who told me there was good, there was heroism, there was dedication tin the fighting. This was, indeed, a tragic and wasteful war that set the stage for critics of justified defense of freedom here and overseas.
Perhaps the everlasting glory of the Viet Nam war is that it proved the vulnerability of US troops sent to fight enemies of other democratic governments. There is a limit, and our leaders must search for winnable fighting of terrorists who would kill more than the 2,000 on 9-11.
I salute your poem and the heartache therein. Thank you for writing it, and posting it this time for those who missed it before. - Bill
