AT SEA’S EDGE

Deep, blue-gray waters of the sea
Making indentations in the sand,
And thrusting her hardware upon the shore
So beautiful and exotic in my hand.


Seagulls with their graceful flight
In skies so clear and fair,
Diving rapidly for a catch
Spraying a mist into the air.


Jellyfish upon the shore lie shiftless
Glimmering with the newborn light,
Struggling for freedom in the sea
No longer safe within the tide.


Sand crabs sneak in sands so grainy
Disturb them and away they scurry,
Here comes the slowly creeping tide
To higher ground; you’d better hurry.


So, life at sea’s edge is alive and well
Starting with the glow of dawn,
And yet, a stillness is foreseen
Beginning at dusk when the sun is gone.

It's amazing what one can see and visualize while standing at the edge of the sea!
