Men are strange creatures
and I truly love mine dearly,
but sometimes his month speaks
before he's thinking clearly.
We've been together
for a little over two years.
He makes me smile and laugh
and is usually quite a dear.
We were out one evening
with a few good friends.
We had enjoyed a good meal,
but weren't ready for the night to end.
The drinks had begun flowing,
the laughter was getting loud,
each man telling the story
of which he was most proud.
There were several stories,
about the one that got away,
or of walking miles to school
way back in the day.
As each man told his story,
they became harder to believe.
Each man tried to out-do the other,
no one was ready to leave.
When the subjects were exhausted,
naturally the talk turned to sex.
Knowing my honey as I do,
I wondered what he'd come up with next.
One manly man bragged
he was ready any time.
His wife, however claimed,
"He certainly can't be mine."
Another said he hoped
to get lucky this very day.
His wife just smiled,
as if she was ready to play.
Then my honey decided
it was time to have his say.
His comment was unexpected,
as he entered into the fray.
He said he'd already performed
his Valentine obligation.
He figured he was all set
until we go on our vacation.
There was silence all around
as I sat there in the middle.
What could he have been thinking
to have voiced such crazy dribble?
An obligation, my brain thought.
Is that what I am?
When I asked him that question,
His responded with a hearty 'DAMN!"
"I put my foot in my mouth.
I do it time and time again.
You know I love ya, Baby"
he said with a great big grin.
The others held their breath
waiting for a loud 'Good Bye'.
I looked over at my honey
and saw the humor in his eyes.
I find it hard to be angry
when he wears that silly smile.
I know that he's not perfect,
but he makes it hard to get riled.
We're just right for each other
and he keeps me entertained.
He often puts his foot in his mouth,
but, he's not always to be blamed.
Men are strange creatures
as we've all been told,
but when they came to my honey,
I know they broke the mold.
