Some people have more children than they can provide for. Others, pick out one who is the scapegoat for all that 'ails' them ... I was such a child. Though I was fed, dressed, etc., there was a distinct difference to how "I" was treated so avoiding contact was preferable to being mistreated.

Happily sit playing
with my Invisible Friend.
Mom doesn't know Him
but, He's real. He's NOT pretend!
The T.V. blasts loud
and the radio's blaring.
Outside, on my own,
we two play tea. He's caring
for He loves us all.
I enjoy being
with my Invincible Friend.
The other children
are cruel, tease me to no end.
Can't hear what they say
with rocks pitched but, Jesus shields.
Mom said: "It's your fault!
You don't fight back, give-in, yield!"
They kick ... not the ball!
My Dad and Jesus
lived but died. They're both my Friends.

help me to be strong--they're my Friends--

It is hard for me to read this without a feeling of revolt within me... It is truly beautiful as a poem and hope and faith remain intact despite the suffering you expressed.

Heartbreaking write; how parents can treat their very own children like dirt is something I can't EVEN begin to understand! It wasn't your fault you were born deaf!! No wonder you had a low self esteem, still have issues with self all these years later! I was treated badly too: was told I'd never amount to anything, was stupid, etc. It didn't help when the parents (mother more than dad) played favorites (Second oldest sister could do no wrong). Very powerful write, well penned!
