A GARDEN SPEAKS

IF YOU DIDN'T DIG US
or
HEDGED OUTTA BED

I was sleeping in the heat
With sweat upon my brow
When in my mind I heard
Get up we need you now

I looked around my room
All was calm and still
Rolled upon my tummy
Hoped the sounds would chill

Now I'm not Mother Nature
But I've a plant or two
Growing in my garden
That needed gettin' to

Demanding little suckers
Worse than dogs or kids
Crying gimme water
It's not like nature did

The weeds are being bullies
They're squeezing at our buds
Beetles are a bitin'
As chipmunks dig the mud

Branches need a trimming
Old blooms to be removed
Give us  fertilizer
Before our growth resumes

Give us some attention!
We're here at your command
If you didn't dig us
We wouldn't need your hand

Horrid  over crowding
We're fighting for some space
Can you see our beauty
When weeds are in our face

Upon our purest patience
Past your rude ingratitude
We bloom just like a rainbow
While you try to sleep past noon
(not true , I am an early riser)

So get up when we call you
Our splendor is but brief
Our life is but a season
Thieved by ALL YOUR  sleep

WAKE UP!!!

This is a link to pictures of only 1/2 of my garden, it's thriving this year in spite of me, when I get my lazy butt in gear, I will post another album with the other half.  I have recycled my daughters old toys, with a fairy tale theme.  Castles, fairies, things like that, then I continued the theme, with a garden door made by Jack Roberts, which we named the Enchanted Entrance.  I put a bunny, some turtles,  & a fairy, by it's entrance.  I have a lion I named baby Aslan, along with the rooster who crossed the road.  My daughter says I am cheesey....too bad......Muuhaahaa........I enjoy it!!!

My loveliest flower is my daughter, wearing a Chinese Dress and her biker boots.

Some old shots here too of my daughter when we first made the garden, she was maybe 4 yrs old and she helped me drag these stones down a mountain load them into my car in 102 degree heat and carry them up the drive way.  Oh I miss those days! Puberty is hell!!!

oh yes

When you get to my on line photo album, push the bar to the fastest speed, there are loads of pics.

Loved your clever, witty (and so true) poem...but drat it,
couldn't get your photos link to display.
Have to admit, the humidity here is such that I've resorted
to silk flowers in my outside urns. Tsk-tsk on me!
Your above photo is lovely though. Thanks for this package, Anita.

Your poem and photos were such a treat this morning..both so colorful. Having spent most of the daylight hours in my own garden this past weekend in the incessant heat , I think I can even appreciate this gift of yours more. I even jotted down a few notes for a poem along the same vein including references to the chipmonks I encountered...good minds think alike, but A, who's gonna deadhad all those petunias, That's a full time job!

I love this enchanting haven for fairies and fireflies...unicorns and gnomes, turtles and a door to the white rabbits hiding place ...enchantment , aromas and fun. This is an awesome poem full of you my dearest friend and your nature is alive and well with glorious mysteries.
Your daughter and mine have the same dress...just about.

First, I liked your poem, since I garden, too. And mine seems to be doing alright despite the intense heat, too. I even picked some peppers this morning.

Second, What??!! I can't believe it??!!

No Cookie statues anywhere??!!!

Third, I am envious. Your garden is much nicer than mine. And at least you have the castle in the garden. Is that where you hide those cookie relatives of yours??!!

This poem is brilliant, but it does not prepare one for the view your pictures offer! (Can we move right into this garden?) Your garden is spectacular, a view one will not forget, a joy that will bloom on in memory, too wonderful!!!

And All................

You know its the cutest thing, when people pass my garden, they try to look at it, but don't want me to know they're looking. When I see that I usually invite them up to have a look, because most of my property is above street level, my house is built on a cliff. Little kids come right up to it, and like to find things, I have little snakes and turtles on the rocks, junky plastic toys, and colored glass marbles on the ground, between the stepping stones. I let kids take them home when they find them. I have so much stuff in the garden....old McDonald's toys, like Tarzan, or little dinosaurs, paper weights, to reflect the sun, little unicorns, glass fish I have hanging from tree branches (flying fish), flying pigs, rows of bird houses, I call Sub-bird-ia, yuk yuk, swans, lots of rude trolls, (nose pickers and butt scratchers), Mikasa crystal bells,so many things. If something breaks in my house, and its interesting, I find a way of using it in the garden. Like refrigerator magnets, that were stained glass, the magnets came off, and I tied them to flower hooks, I have swarski crystal beads hanging from tree branches here and there, to make rainbow reflections.........I know it makes me look nutty........lol........but my garden is wild and as eclectic as my hair.......

I do it all myself........lots of work.....thats the only drag, but I do enjoy it......thanks all for your sweet compliments.........

Awhhhhh...wahhhh....unbelievable.
Your garden so closely resembles mine!!!
My arbor (though made of concrete and stone, is situated where
yours is, my planters are the same kind, there is a profusion of
Petunias...which I dearly love for their sturdiness and ever-blooming
qualities...and even...Sumac?
I plant and prune sumac to look like tropical palms. Though my garden is lavender and blue in the summer months, it is full of fall
colors of the most earthy kind, in autumn.
Do you live in the Midwest, too?
Going now to check out your other pics.

A beautiful garden dear Anita and an excellent construct also.

Very smooth and flowing, and I agree with Eileen, that garden is you, an extension of who you are inside.

Could easily be an allegory, too, about relationship with people.

Be blessed

Liked this irreverent horticultural gem, flower of a poem, A!
yes, they do need require lots of attention, even small gardens.
Just listened to Oscar Wilde's selfish Giant on the radio -
he built a wall around his garden and put up a big notice:
TRESPASSERS WILL BE PROSECUTED. Old Jack Frost and his friend, The Hail, were the only visitors in the giant's garden after a while.
the flowers popped their heads up and went back to sleep: he's too selfish, they said to each other..... ha! hope you enjoyed this snippet across the garden wall, my dear! kenny
