Never regret, but remember all the beauty that once was... things happen for a reason, and if hearts can be made unbreakable then pain would cease... but they are not, so we learn and forge ahead and stop looking at the closed door... we need to or we will not see the one who opens it for us... ~Lily of Lough Neagh~

Poem Artwork

 A Memento

You came to me, an autumn day
then many times did more
and gave to me a stone of blue
your love forever more

A wee bit big, I did not care
and held it with my love
close to heart, which now does break
for things that which did come

I question naught, for I do know
though ponder in my mind
and close my eyes and think of you
and of those sweeter times

For in this life, there does come change
and choices that are made
held too long impending change
must move ahead the same

So this morn’ that I do stand
with coffee in my hand
and watch the sun as it does rise
and calm my trembling hand

I wipe the tear upon my cheek
and open my cupped hand
a memento blue and shining
placing kiss I understand

I can relate to this completely although I do not understand why "love" seems to be so will o' the wisp like. I think you'll know what I mean. I am confused at times since I am greatly romantic, passionate and I don't worry much about what the "world" and "society" think. Thank you, Carol. Love and best wishes to you,

Regis

Better to remember the good times Lilly and forget the bad, that's what I say. Great painful write but looks like moving forward

Poignantly, heartbreakingly sad, but with an outlook of hope on the horizon. Great write, Lily.

Understanding is the first step to forgiveness. Starting out with understanding can avoid conflict altogether. Your poem has a sense of longing that you haven't quite resolved.

Beautiful understanding of what
was not to be *Carolee* by a

My dear Lady Lily, life can be painful, but if for the best then the right choice was made. Again you show us your diversity between love and broken relationships very well.

I bow and tip my hat to you

Bittersweet lessons are being learned in this poem, and I agree with Diana. Understanding is an optomistic word. Sometimes when 'in this life there does come change'it is exciting and fresh. This time I think, not so much. But an opportunity just the same, to grow and value life. Be well, Kathy

I like the symbol of a blue stone residing where love brought it. I am thinking the fourth line in the second stanza has a glitch and perhaps was meant to be "for things which did not come," ? In stanza five, I like the rising sun calming a trembling hand. That line gives rededming qualities. This poem carries a tenderness that ends the piece with "understand," a very optomistic word. ~~ Diana

Carol, I know that one learns from heartbreaks and yes, remembering
the sweet things that occurred. A wise comment. Thanks-

Everyone should reflect only on the good things, and disregard the unpleasant and move forward. I like your quote there is wisdom in it

It's wonderful to keep a memento for all the beautiful precious moments there once were.
Let the sharp edges of the pain be softened with the remembrances this blue stone gives you.

Despite the pain, very beautiful Carolee

Leaving precious mementos which will soothe the hurts and ease the pain of someone who has chosen to leave. I see the strength in each and every line that was written. Excellent!
