As the storm passes then enters the calm...

Poem Artwork

See the swirling of wind afore your eyes like faeries
circular spirals dancing around the moon as it howls
like that of the wolf baying in the night it’s lonely cry
It’s orchestra whirring as willow throws out its spiny limbs

Grabbing at your soaked frame as you stagger along
like a drunken sailor tethered to a rail for fear of being lost
sucked down into the bottomless sea of murk and mire
you crawl with outstretched bony finger grasping to hang on

Ahead it is there a pinpoint of light behind masked tape
straining ahead like a dog on a leash in vain effort
to reach a morsel of food that has been withheld from him
you pick at the tape with a jagged nail brittle and weak

The corner has lifted and silence falls like sails boom
Light…

In French, there is a saying, "Après la pluie, le beau temps." It appies literally to a storm's passing but also to happenings in life. Your verses remind me of this. Thank you, Carol. Love and best wishes to you,

The darkness and struggle against the storm life forces so many times.
It can almost totally suck out the last spark of energy.
How wonderful when we can reach with the last bit of inner force the light, the silence, the inner peace.

I held my breath while I read this and released it when I came to the end, with the light. Calm at the end of the storm...

Released from this leash, shining from the light!

To me, this sounds like a person coming back to reality. For this person was clinically depressed, "Silence Falls"....seeing light again. Your poetry is breathless!

I have never known faeries (I love that word) to reside in a storm, but I detect that this is some sort of nightmare of mixed emotions where you finally begin to pick away at the edges until you see the “light.”

Eerie and mysterious is this gem, Carol. The staggering walk-run toward the center of this person's world is mired with mixed emotions and desire. To what end does this person seek?
