It seems that Heaven does not like
To drink booze -- all hard topers
Have never got an eternal reward.
It seems that Earth does not like
To drink wine either, as I've never
Heard of any Springs of Wine or
Lakes full to the brim with liquors. . .
On the other part, Heaven and Earth
Should be fond of drinking wine --
There is nothing which is beyond
Their all-embracing practices:
A couple of cups, and all roads start
To be opened before you; while
After drinking a couple of jugs
You smoothly become an integral part
Of the company called 'Holy Trinity.'

Still, only wine appears naturally and gets all creatures large and small utterly drunk on its alcoholic berries. With a natural legacy like that, man can only follow in the paths of other creatures that pick too much from the overly ripe and actually spoiled, fruit seeking nourishment but gaining instead, the Enlightenment of altered senses.
