T’was the Eve of X-mas,
I heard a Fuss!
Hooves on the Rooftop -
Creaking a Truss!
Clickety, Clickety, Click,
Bet it’s Ole Saint Nick!
Clickety, Clickety Clack,
With a Sack on his Back!
WHOOSH - Bing, Bam!
Down through the Chim-ley he Came!
Whop, Flop, Wham!
Along with a Chorus of -‘Damn, Damn, Damn!’
Talk about a Big Sound,
He Hit the Hearth,
And did Abound!
Yep - Rotund, or Round!
So - This was Kris Kringle?
His Boot-Bells all A-Jingle!
Resembled Tim, in “Santa Clause”
Right to Work - no Chat, no Pause!
But when he saw me standing Near,
“Hey Bud - how about a Shot N’ a Beer?’
To the Ole Kitchen I Shot -
Double for Both - that’s what I Got!
A Clink of Glasses,
Then ‘Down the Hatch!’
“What a Good Boy, Bud -
Go Get us Another Batch!”
Helped him Unpack all the Toys,
For Good Lil Girls n’ Boys.
Ma n’ Me did Okay Too -
Several Wrapped Boxes - Contents? No Clue!
“Put that Milk and Cookies -
Right atop the Sink,
Want the Rookies to Think ...
We had a Non-Alcoholic Drink!”
Santa Klaus was Now certainly Jolly,
Red Cheeks n’ Nose told of his Folly!
Saint Nicholas was Pale of Face,
But Displayed both Aplomb n’ Grace!
“Well, that’s it, Bud - I’m all Done!
But, One for the Road, T’would be Fun!”
Sleinte’ - Prost! - L’Chiam - Cheers!
We then Knocked Off - Three More Beers!
As Father Christmas was Leaving,
And began to Shimmy Up the Flue,
I once again was Believing -
Not like Elvis’ Christmas of Blue!
Moral of This Story?
Some Hope for Love and Glory?
May Peace Permeate Ole Planet Earth -
REMEMBER - IT IS JESUS’S BIRTH!

I like it, and now you know why we Polacks call Santa 'Sweaty Mikolaj.' We anxiously wait by the chimney for him with a big bottle of Spiritus - after the first shot of this wondrous liquor, you start sweating profusely, and by the third shot, you no longer even care!
In the race to get prepared for Xmas, you sure have beat the heap. I think I'll pile on right here. Let's have another beer… on the other hand, I don't drink beer. Maybe another hot toddy to warm my cockles. Deck the halls with balls of holly, la, la, la… Ron
A short story of mine was included in an anthology of short fiction by fourteen of Port Town Publishing Company's authors. It is out of print and no longer available except as a download. Contact me at charlenetess@yahoo.com if you want it.
