About a week before Christmas, I heard on the radio that there has not been any new Yuletide songs since around 1998. Whether true or not, I decided I would attempt writing the lyrics for one.
As the days sped by, and I listened to the Christmas Carols being repeated over and over, one particular song struck me as being not only fairly recent, but also very beautiful. It was "Mary Did You Know" version by Kenny Rogers and some woman?
Then, I thought about poor Saint Joseph, relegated to a 'back-seat' for 2,000 years. Perhaps a carol praising him, as well as pointing out the symbolism of Angels involved might be apropos. So, what you see is a first draft, that I may, or may not edit in the future. No attempt was made to perfect any metrical balance or measurements, so change is probably needed ... time will tell ...
If there is a composer out there who would like to set the lyrics to music, I would certainly like to be contacted.

I LOVE THIS CHRISTMAS SHARING, ENTIRELY. AND YOU ARE SO RIGHT...JOSEPH IS FOR THE MOST PART, OVERLOOKED. Now that you got the words, you need to visit some friendly Irish home where they sing a lot of nasty old songs. From there I'm sure you can pick up a melody for the words. I heard that's the way it was done in the old days and it sounds good today.
This is a great beginning, Tom! You have all the components, except the feelings, the heart of Joseph, so maybe God will give you deep insight into the man as you meditate and ask Him.
Even if you never change anything it is still a very worthy poem that makes us think about Joseph and his place in the family.
Now a question for you: Tom, Did You Know...that the Magi did not arrive until Jesus was a young child, and their visit was not to the stable but to a house? Still, all our Nativity sets place them at the stable and that's ok with me!
