Though not something I normally say,
I am going ahead to say it anyway.
This is a poem; I can say what I want;
There is no one around, there to taunt.
At best, others will read this in the quiet;
They can do as they want, even cause a riot.
But the idea just came to me, like a song,
Suddenly making me feel I can do no wrong.
Writing the poem feels like singing to myself,
Finding an inner vein of richness and wealth.
I used to sing to myself quite often,
My daily moods and feelings to soften.
This a habit developed as a little child,
I burst into song whenever I felt wild.
At times, it would seem like inner dancing,
The sweet melodies cavorting, prancing.
The happiness would surge within me,
Some outlet needed to escape from me.
I almost couldn’t stand the feelings of joy,
Throaty song to fill air a reasonable ploy.
Of course, I never did this in front of others;
People would laugh, especially my brothers.
Then my joy got caught as a lump in my throat;
I would keep so silent, like a castle with a moat.
What is it about singing that fills us to the brim,
To cast away our moodiness or any sense of sin.
Every fiber in the body now focused on the voice;
Sweet melodies fill the air as we quietly rejoice.
Now moments of song much fewer, far between;
Our fading hopes are not always what they seem.
I now remember the last time I sang to myself,
Feeling a little lonely, as if sitting upon a shelf.
The occasion had been built up for many a week,
The horizon seemed misty, looking every bit bleak.
A soulful hymn born of some deep emotion emerged;
The notes gathered quietly until they slowly surged.
The sound, when finally released, flew free as a bird,
Sounding honest, holy even, as anything before heard.
I will always sing to myself, with never a last song,
Singing always lifts my spirit and never feels wrong.
TO THIS ONE I CAN RELATE. I LOVE TO SING OUT LOUD, BUT I SING TO MY SAVIOR! HE ENJOYS IT NO MATTER HOW I SOUND AND I ENJOY JUST GIVING HIM PRAISE. I DO IT WHEN I AM ALONE OR IN THE PRESENCE OF SOMEONE WHO CAN UNDERSTAND TO WHOM I SING. THERE IS A 'CONNECTION' THAT CAN'T BE EXPLAINED WHEN ONE SINGS AND THE AUDIENCE IS...JESUS! AMEN! WELL DONE AND ENJOYED...THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS
I think you might make a habit of it. Like every once in a while just sing your heart out because it certainly is therapeutic and nothing wrong with singing for the mere joy of it.
I can't recall singing to myself very much, but I do enjoy singing for others every once in a while. There are a couple of songs that I still remember the words to and can hold a fairly good melody with my throat, lungs and voice failing. Still, like you, I can't wax poetic, but I can still sing in public. Recently, I attended two Christmas parties where they had karaoke Christmas carols. While I can sing Christmas carols a cappella, karaoke makes it a lot easier to get the words right after all the years. ;-)
I always found singing to be very therapeutic. I still sing whenever I get the chance. Never lose your song dear John, especially the one of sweet belong. Have a great day dear .
I can so relate. I couldn't carry a tune in the proverbial bushel basket, so i don't really let my singing heard in public. But when I'm home alone, all bets are off. I'll even break into a yodel. Sing on.
David Hightower’s lyrically expansive meditation on the whims of fate and the unpredictability of the human condition fill the pages of THE HANGING MAN DREAMS with thrilling music and mesmerizing imagery. Hightower’s richly infused voice echoes the e
Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
