-- The Sky Blue --
John Herlihy
As the world falls silent in twilight hush,
The night on stealthy paws arrives in a rush.
In the darkest heavens, the sky now gone;
At one with the day, now we don’t belong.
Nothing compares to the clear, blue sky,
A vision of loveliness upon which we rely.
An unrelenting vision of aquamarine blue,
No ripple or wave, only heavens we knew.
Winter may be upon us with seasonal chill,
The crystalline beauty of the sky – blue still.
Autumn notable for orange, yellow and red;
The sky where I lay me down to rest my head.
Such variety of blue where the eye wades,
Cobalt blue, midnight blue, azure shades.
Blue jays, bluebells, a wonderland creamy,
An awning over earth with texture dreamy.
On those dismal cloudy days, their grim mood,
I long for the blue of heaven as I sit and brood.
The sun seems gone, even if we know it’s there;
Clouds overhead care little my feelings to spare.
Then, the night awakens with its eternal dark,
An endless infinity that leaves behind its mark.
The darkness interrupted by pinpricks of stars,
Relating messages of mystery we claim as ours.
Does anyone prefer black of night to blue of day,
A vast sea of delight with such beauty to convey.
We know it as illusion, but this illusion oh so real,
Divine eyes shine forth heavens our hearts to steal.
