Desire
by John Herlihy
Desire a ghost ship leading into the unknown,
Taking us to places far away from the known.
I say I want or I don't want as if I really know,
Placing a seed in our hearts that wants to grow.
And grow it does into a full-throated bloom,
Deep down in the heart in some hidden room.
Singing all of my wishes in the full light of day,
Desires turned into words with something to say.
Our will finds answers in the logic of the mind,
Our desires find an aura of a far different kind.
Not stone cold logic, but embers in the heart,
Burning with a ferocity that will never depart.
Ghost Ship turned Death Ship when desires die,
Flying like birds into the all-encompassing sky.

But I guess we reach a point where the ship we are on is merely a ghost of our past. And the death ship awaits around the bend to finish her off.
