"The Wind" was written by my niece, Ashley Sue Moore when she was 11 years old. She lives in California, enjoys a career in Renewable Energy and is active in the performing arts. She is on the left in the picture at about the age the poem was written. Pictured is her twin brother, Ian and two sisters.

The Wind

As the wind turns in our hands, look, listen.
See the wind and whisper...go, go, go, runaway!
We are lost in a world of enchantment.
The wind is gone, but, I still play.

I turn the key of mystery.
But, my friend, the wind won't come back.
I turn the key of friendship.
It still won't come back.

I turn all the keys, but there is only one.
The key of....Wind.
The wind I am longing to play
with won't come back.

It wants to play, with itself,

     It wants to dance,

     It wants to have fun,

     It wants to be free,

     It's running away,

     It is gone.

Precious Ashley, I'm so very proud of you-I always have been-now, I owe you an apology. When I came across your poem, that you sent me so many years ago, I read it and said, WOW! I confess, and apologize! You see, when you wrote it, Grandma didn't get it! You were way ahead of "my time". As I look back, I look at you, and I GET IT, and I love it! You are so talented and I'm proud of you for choosing to use your wonderful singing and acting abilities to bring joy to others. I love you, Grandma

For an 11 year old girl, Ashley had a wonderful and creative mind; an engaging write from a precious free spirited young woman! Thanks for sharing this, Jim.
