We need to keep the Christmas spirit going longer - at least past 12/25!

Poem Artwork

Two days after Christmas

I stepped outside my door

No one had their lights on

In my neighborhood anymore

It seem so dark and dreary

And man I thought so lame,

I grabbed my books, got in my car

And straight to “Open Mic” I came.

The cards have all stopped coming

The phone just hasn’t rung

The turkey now picked clean

Seems to taste like pheasant dung.

Two nights ago singing carols I was a wrappin’

Two days later Christmas leftovers I’m a crappin’

Two nights ago we beheld a gorgeous silent night

Two days later now we’re back to the war and the fights

But wouldn’t it be nice if we’d all do what

Our Christmas cards say,

And keep the spirit of Christmas

For longer than a day.

Caryn that was very wise and wonderful. Was it only twenty minutes ago I looked at my Mum and said, "Well, quite dark in the neighbourhood I must say." We agreed that the Christmas spirit went dead after all the surprises and parties. How everlastingly disappointed I am! You spoke the words beautifully.

noble goal but each person must find their own road...it is a shame though how quickly the good spirit evaporates! Well written! May your new year be the best ever!

This is a marvellous work ... Technically perfect. Perfection in your poems is your trademark and you never cease to excite my 'muse.' I can see the work that must have gone in to perfecting your craft and it is indeed a pleasure to read your poems. Bill Murray
