Dearest Dad…(an apology)

There was a time,

In the not so distant past,

You were my idol, my dad,

The person that would not make me feel sad,

I know for sure, as it was me; I was extremely bad,

You always did help, only once in awhile did you yelp…

Many things I did that got you angry,

You punished me thinking it was for the best,

It did not seem to help; you must of thought I was beyond,

I know you really tried; eventually we did develop a bond…

As I grew older I got more wild and did more wrong,

Eventually you knew, even though you would not admit,

I would sing the going to prison blues hopefully for not too long,

That day did come, you cried tears, you could not help, oh shit!

The police did take me away, and I can still see you there,

You cried as I did, you could not help, did you think it unfair?

It was, after all in reality, the best thing that could happen,

Gone to prison I did, my life at that time in the toilet,

As time did go on, I managed to learn, told you do not fret,

My future will be better, I would make this up to you, try to help you get set…

After my release, we had seven short years together, I do sigh,

But those years were the best; for the most part we made our peace,

You have been gone now for just about fifteen years,

Each and every time I think of you I cry big wet tears,

But I know that you realize, as I have changed, no more for me do you have fears…

Just wanted you to know Dear Dad, I apologize for me when I was young,

You keep an eye on me now, I can tell that at times,

I seem to feel your presence, you stop by in my mind,

They are the best times when I think you are here,

I feel like a little kid again with my daddy oh so near, no fear…

Was looking for a Father's Day poem from you. This is what I pulled up first. A great Tribute to your Dad and Have a Happy Father's Day, Ed, give Rufus a special bone and he might have a present to give you too. You two are two peas on a pod. Anyway do have a nice Sunday, maybe a good walk or an outing to Please Rufuz. He gets the best attention doesn't he? 2008

I am just so glad that you and your Dad, had those precious years together to make up for time lost, and that in that time you bonded.
It can take half a lifetime to mess it up, but thankfully five minutes to fix it, he knew you were sorry back then, but this is a fine tribute, one I feel you needed to write.
Well done dear friend. Peace be with you.
Love Ch'erie

When you bare your soul, Ed, you open the floodgates, yours AND mine! That last verse is your soul-searching best, my dear. He knows... he hears... don't doubt that. You write with such passion... you feel so deeply... that makes you a very appealing writer, and a wonderful friend. I count on your truths. I hope this provided therapy... rest yourself, Ed... you are a treasure. katy xox.

A parent loves and forgives a child no matter what takes place. I can tell from this write that your father loves you. Being a parent means we have to tell our child when they are acting incorrectly, but we are always there for them. Children make mistakes, its all part of growing up. Glad to see you learnt from yours, some people never do. I am sure your father is smiling up there, extremely proud of you.

That is the true measure of a father that he loves you no matter what. I am glad that I had my daddy's love. A mother's love is just as wonderful. Some people never have either. Wonderfully expressed.
