Jes, it's tough to be popular, it's only by one Wasp vote in your early parliament you would have spoken German, which would fit much better into this diatribe of linguste, and we had ways of dealing with outsiders and prisoners, and with gas prices so much cheaper here then there, there probably be no prisoners or other languages left to worry about, I say Sieg Heil my friend, I remember that much.

I understand as there are so many without work because they are told they have the education, it all comes down to paperwork yet try to apply and you can't speak to anyone that speak English. It's the same with prisoners rights, and who gave them rights. They can rape and murder etc. they go to jail for life, now tell me how come 25 years is a life. I am 55 and I plan on living a lot longer. They can get all the education, computers, television, movies, food and able to take their family for the weekend, Food and an apartment is supplied for them.Then they get out 8 years earlier with I might add a fat sum of money they earned for committing a crime and again we are the ones paying for it. Rights, I believe we are all on the wrong side of the fence. I believe my newfie dandruf is starting to fly. Great point Ed sorry for going on and on.

I think both U.S. and Canada are the same. They cater to people who have no contribution to our countries. In Canada, the Canadian government welcome them with open arms, give them a place to live in free of charge, give them money to spend at the expense of those who work hard for a living. Those immigrants have courses in their own countries even before they come, the course is "How to get money from the Canadian government?" - It is so sad the our countries are continuually giving away our hard earned money. I have been working ever since I was 15, (part of the time in Hong Kong; and most o the time here in Cananda); my husband has been woking ever since he as 16, right up to when he was 53 when he had his surgery. He had never taken any days off from work, even went to work when he was sick like a dog; and yet after the surgery the Canadian government decided he was not disable enough to give him the disability. This is so sad that those who have been paying into their own health system, never taken a day off from work; dutifully file income tax every year, pay tax when due, and yet when it's time for the Canadian government to give back what he has been paying into for all these years he was refused of his own hard earned money. They took the disability amount in every pay check he's got and yet when time of need they won't give him back.

Yet, people who come into the country, new immigrants who has no contributions to this country can have all the benefits, even right down to free medication and health care, a place to live for free, free money (welfare) given to them while they sit on their asses drinking beer all day long.

I'm so sick of the system!! If it wasn't for my job's benefit, my hubby would have been suffering -big time!! Right now my job pays for his medication, but still, it is my money that was taken out of every one of my paycheck to cover for that inurance while some people can get them for free and don't have to put a dime into the Canadian government. It just makes me sick just thinking about it!!!!! Nothing is fair!!!!!!

We have the similiar problems here in Canada and my own opinion is I have no problem with immigration and diversity but I still feel if they are coming to our country to avoid theirs...assimilation should be the ultimate goal.

I too am sick and tired of all the FREAKIN' ESPANOL! I am sick and tired of standing in line in stores, and listening to a bunch of FOREIGNERS who can't speak English - carrying on a conversation in Espanol, laughing out loud, holding up the line because they - NO COMPRENDE! NO HABLA INGLES! NO TENGO MUCHO DINERO!

Every damned store, supermarket, with LABELS in two languages - WHY?
To appease a populace that REFUSES TO ASSIMILATE?

The Naysayers, like Dan - want to throw up a 'smokescreen' about history, and our families were once all IMMIGRANTS - but, they wanted to be AMERICANS FIRST AND FOREMOST!

Sure, ethnic groups abound, but all those who truly assimilated into one culture, and congealed into this 'Great Melting Pot' did so with PRIDE! Parents and Grand-Parents who spoke their 'own' language in the Home - made SURE their children got educated, and LEARNED THE AMERICAN LANGUAGE! POSTHASTE! ABSOLUTEMENTE!

Those ethnic groups associated with religious backgrounds, like: Jews, Catholics, Protestants, Mormons, Amish, whatever - did not DEMAND preferential treatment - their desires, cultures, mores, rites, et cetera were SECONDARY! They built their own churches and schools, and continued their ethnic traditions and training, and passed them down to their children - by spending their OWN MONEY!

They didn't PREY on the government and other taxpayers for SPECIAL EXCEPTIONS, like LANGUAGE!

No one is REQUIRED TO: Press 1 for Chinese, 2 for Korean, 3 for Vietnamese,
4 for Italian, 5 for Portugese, 6 for German, 7 for Gaelic, 8 for Swedish, 9 for Russian,
10 for Thai, 11 for Cambodian, 12 for African or Swahili ... AD INFINITUM!

Not to worry senior' Gringo. You and I are about to become the minority. Being a Californian I'll have that opportunity first. By then the state will be broke and NOBODY will be receiving welfare because anybody making an honest living will have moved to another state taking their overspent tax revenue with them. Ed, on one hand I can understand and even agree with you, that 'those tired, huddled masses' entering our borders, should have a good working knowledge of our language; however, if someone enters our country 'illegally' what makes you think they are one bit interested in learning a foreign language, just to make someone else happy?

We (Americans) should have learned by now that just because certain laws, no matter how well stated they may be, are of no threat or consequence to the law-breaker, until they get caught. I am against all forms of profiling...just because someone does not look like they belong here, and while I'm at it, that 2,000 mile fence is a joke. I'm still waiting for the fence to be built across the U.S. Canadian Border...[Sic] don't worry that will never happen, thank goodness.

In short, we need to enforce the immigration laws enacted many years ago, under the Truman administration, sadly, that too will never happen.
