...on a sunny Autumn morning...took a leisurely walk from Bondi Beach to the cliffs of the Waverley Cemetery...to see first hand the unstoppable power, beauty and force of the Nature...weaves of the South Pacific Ocean caressing magenta beach-sand and...spectacularly crashing against the coastal land...then...on the top of the hill...in silence...could hear my own heart beat...reflected on life...the dynamic power of thoughts and feelings and a nature of the Self...as a care-taker of the possibilities in life...as a master of the seen and the unseen...scientific mind capable of exploring what's still not known to the temporal eye...and the Ultimate...
...it lightened my soul and became aware that all these people once talked, walked, laughed, cried, worked, loved, dreamt big bright hopeful thoughts...just like I do...they inspired following poem...we only get one dash...

On Waverley Hill
Graveyards epitaph stone carved
white name, date of birth
and departure exact time
sandwiched between - little dash
welded simple seam
holds human life for no man
to see, just Heaven
knows the mortgage paid on time
along with number of days
worrying. Auspicious
times worth breaking bank, other
laws. An insisting
world to settle for second
best, wrestling to keep gang of
voracious wolves from
fragile doors that shield hard life's
hidden depth. Still not
turning other cheek with mood
uplifting C'est la vie smile
wooing to thrown out
good cherries, wallow in foul
restless, ate own hat
choose to feel smug for awhile
but miserable felt at
relationship grasp
that once excited
profoundly stirred life
ne'er fathomed, immured at
last to infinity sleep...
it is our duty to pay the mortgage on a house and land that we will not be able to take with us...and so we leave behind a credit report which becomes meaningless once accumulated what a beautiful work you wove in the tapestry of life between the dashes

A sensitive and thought provoking poetic song. Yes, the dash comes to mind and how we spend these years can be easily forgotten if not recorded. So we will continue on this journey and record our lives in poetry and prose as you have done so very well. Bravo!
Great insight into life between the birth and death dates shown on gravestones. Yes, much of that little – is unknown, but with Twitter and Facebook, blogs and other social media, someday that – will be able to be scanned for a complete, unabridged, biography of the deceased for everyone to scan and learn from. Many mistakes that we have caused in the past will be corrected because they won't be repeated in the future.
