Front Porch Swing at Sunset


The old front porch swing moved as
I pressed back with a foot in the way
we did for another sunset color show

Cool drinks in hand we are
side by side in the dusk of
Autumn to wait for sure treats

Today's sun rays touch my earth in
bolder streaks of red over slivers of
lavender in mixed changing shades

It all flows together while we
silently absorb the changes for
fear it might hear us and fade

Again an old orange ball controls
a slide show in the sky performing
in new revelations and right on cue

You and I swinging gasping
slowly shaking heads at the
wonder of it all just for us

In our time we pointed to specials
not to be missed each one slowly
changing into softer melding tints

Together we sigh and bathe
ourselves in the wash of
these gorgeous bursting hues

Swinging I recall the quiet joy of
knowing that the other was filled
with a deep unspoken content
