What Eddie Wanted for Christmas
All the boys and girls were standing in line.
Their mothers waited beside them, but they didn’t mind.
Jolly old Saint Nick sat in the big red chair.
On his lap the little ones sat as he listened with great care.
One by one they told him what they wanted from him.
Every now and then a tyke would pull on the hair of his chin.
That’s when they found out it really was Santa Claus.
They would tell him everything they wanted without a pause.
Fire engines, dolls, and new bikes.
It was everything a child would like.
Then on his lap sat little Eddie.
For this one Santa wasn’t quite ready.
After all, he was only four or five.
But he shocked Santa with quite a surprise.
He sat there with Saint Nick, chattering away in no exact style.
His mother stood there with a big wide smile.
Santa asked what he wanted most, more than anything.
That’s when Eddie said he wanted his daddy to stop wrestling.
Santa was puzzled and his mother was, too.
They wanted to know what he was referring to and who.
“He wrestles with Aunt Sue in mommy’s bed when she’s not home,” he said.
His mother looked shocked and her face turned red.
“Who is Aunt Sue?” Santa asked with dread.
“That’s my mommy’s sister,” little Eddie said.
His mother croaked, “When I get home, he is dead.”
Santa knew he would not fly through the air to their house.
Not this Christmas since there was going to be murder,
and mommy was going to the hooskow.
